Recreational Soccer Programs

Recreational soccer, Divisions 1 to 7 (Ages 5 to 19),
is open to all interested soccer players.

PYSL offer two recreational soccer season programs as well as recreational soccer camps each year. The spring soccer season begins in March and runs for an 8-week period until May 1st. The fall soccer season begins in early August and runs until just prior to Thanksgiving each year. Each is described in more detail below:

Fall Recreational Soccer Programs - August thru November

It is the goal of PYSL to offer the best soccer experience possible for Poway kids. An issue we have had is concerning uneven talent on teams for competition. Last year some teams were far more successful than others, which held them back from being challenged and frustrated losing teams. We are trying something new with skills assessments.  We will ask our volunteer coaches, and our competitive coaches, to evaluate your child as he/she runs a few stations.
These are fun and non-threatening. The goal is to spread out the strong players and the novice players so everyone improves and has an enjoyable experience.

Spring Recreational Soccer Programs - March through April

Spring Soccer is based upon small-sided games of 4 players on a side. Our goal is to allow children of all skill levels the opportunity to play soccer in a fun setting. There are no practices. You simply show up and play.

Why do we play small-sided games?  It makes soccer a better experience for children.  More touches on the ball, more opportunities to make decisions, more actual play.  These are energetic workouts, requiring every player to play offense, defense and transition between those roles. Small-sided games are endorsed by major coaching organizations in the US and internationally.
